You know I often think of “Good Times”, and what they mean to me. Back in the day the good times were me and some friends taking a road trip to Kona/Waipio Valley in one of my many busted ass cars I drove… take you pick;
- 1979 Mazda GLC wagon
- 1986 Nissan Sentra
- 1989 4×4 Ford Ranger (bad ass truck… it was pimp purple with flakes)
- or the toughest of the tough the 1987 Ford Escort.
The Escort took the cake, because I pimped this ride out…. oh yeah… gloss black paint job, fog lights, custom island chain stencil (courtesy of PatterNuts) and a 6 speaker CD system bumping only the best tunes. Oh yeah, Kona didn’t know what hit them when we rolled up on the scene…. and the damn thing might as well been four wheel drive for the roads we took it down. Like a champ, and to show true Ford craftsmanship this beast would not be stopped…. time and time again it would be put to the test; 69’s, Pinetrees, and Kawa. But like all good times it came to an end when I moved away to Florida to go back to school, I heard rumors that it was still on the island… that it had been seen at the Prince Kuhio Mall parking lot, or maybe down at Richardsons… I don’t remember. All I do know, is that if you ever meet someone who had the privilege of riding in the “Black Bandit” they will tell you that it was “Good Times…. Good Times”
Thanks for reading, and always remember …. paper bags make for good Halloween costumes in a pinch.
